(Overview)

The brief

The gallery was showing thirty years of a painter’s colour-field work, and wanted the show’s graphics to stay out of the paintings’ way while still being recognisable on a poster across the street.

The work

Every piece of print borrows its shapes from the paintings, cropped so tightly that they become new compositions. Inside the gallery, the only graphics are small wall labels and a single line of type at the entrance. The walls stay white.

The result

The poster series ran across the city for eight weeks, and the postcards sold out twice in the gallery shop.
